My ability to sleep is still suffering and I feel that can be strongly attributed to the sheer amount of mess surrounding me. Only half of my bed is usable as an actual space to lie down. The rest of my room has precariously placed items, most of which are old or not currently relevant for my use. My desk is probably the most organized area of my room but even that is a stretch. The more time passes the more art supplies have made their way up from my studio to the bedroom since the studio is cluttered as well. Yikes! But something I feel good about, although it’s technically contributing to the volume of mess, is the fact that I finished gessoing several canvases.
It ended up unintentionally becoming more complicated than just using the flat white housepaint I like. Several layers, lots of wet sanding for a smooth surface, and then a final delicate layer of Golden Pastel Ground for tooth and absorbancy. That’s why a day dedicated to priming (and building) is always a good idea and you’ll likely be too tired to do much else. Though that might just be me!
Also, referring back to the mess… I have an old glass palette caked in paint that’s practically 8 years old now. It’s some strong stuff. I want the palette for my desk since I’ve been using a metal paint can lid as an oil palette. It works but it’s just a little too small and my range of colors is too broad for it to be effective for long. However, despite using my strongest paint stripping potions, scraping the paint off has proven extremely challenging. It’ll probably be a three day endeavor but gosh darn it I’ll get it done!
In the meantime, I’m practicing using the glass top of my desk itself as a pallete. I realize it’s kind of a risky move but I decided to make the attempt with water based poster paint. It works! I don’t see this being a viable option for too long though. But thankfully cleanup will be as easy as wetting a towel and wiping it down.
Okay, cool. Back to work.
